Golf is a sport that has been played in Turkey for over a century, the fi rst golf course being established at İstanbul Golf C in 1895. However, it is only in recent years that golf became a branch of alternative tourism and now there are many people who come to Turkey just to play golf. The mild climate of the Mediterranean region in particular makes Turkey one of the few countries where golf can be played in sunshine throughout the year; a feature that is on that benefits international golf courses. There are also several golf courses in İstanbul: Istanbul Golf Club (9 holes), Klassis Golf and Country Club (18+9 holes) and Kemer Golf and Country Club (18+9 holes). These are perfect for golfers living or staying in the city. Golf has become an integral part of the recreation program for participants in conferences and meetings held in Istanbul. Golf clubs accept individual bookings and will arrange tournaments for groups on request. Istanbul’s golf clubs have hosted national and international tournaments such as the PGA European Challenge Tours, TGF Seniors, European Champion Clubs Golf Tournament and the EGA Club Cup Trophy.
