İstanbul Archaeology Museums are amongst the foremost of the world with its building specially constructed as museum and with unique collection containing over-million works from various cultures. The main building was made built by the archaeologist, painter, and museum man Osman Hamdi for exhibiting large size and important artifacts including sarcophagus of Alexandre the Great, sarcophagus King Tabnit, sarcophagus of Satrap and the famous sarcophagus of the “Woman in Tears” brought to İstanbul from excavations at Saida in the Necropolis of Kings during the years 1887 and 1888. In the exhibition hall of the Main Building relics found in excavations at Saida along with numerous artifacts form imperial lands echoing the time from Archaic period to the end of Roman period, Brankhit Sculptures of Didyma-Miletus, Sacred Path, Kore ve Kuros (young girl and boy) sculptures, lion sculpture of Halikarnassos Mausoleum, Aphrodites’ head of Bergama Zeus Altar, Portrait of Alexander the Great, sculpture works of Aphrodisias, Ephesos and Miletos, the tree marble cities of Roman period. At the end of this hall the provincial samples of sculptures pertaining to Roman period Imperial era found in all east Mediterranean regions take place chronologically, ancient centers being emphasized. Besides, you can see the other two museums, Ancient Orient Museum and Tiled Pavilion within the same garden.
